June 22nd, 2012: Mynabirds And Los Campesinos Different Venues, Same Night

Los Campesinos are at Le Poison Rouge, 630p door on Friday June 22nd. Mynabirds at Mercury Lounge on the same day, 1030p door. What to do? RUUUUUNNNNN

Yup, I am gonna try for both of them. Los Campesinos last two albums were disappointments and when I caught em two years ago at Webster Hall I was aghast. But, like I said, two years ago nd Garth is a true original wacko and LPR is a terrific room.

Mynabirds had a tremendous album, What We Lost In The Fire, on Saddlecreek, two years ago, a sorta Dusty Springfield-y soul album by a white chick with a surfeit of soul. They played town but I missed it.

The title song off their upcoming album Generals is a real good, lively stomper and the PR folks at Saddle Creek have this to say (I'll be going any way):

"GENERALS is fueled by a full decade of Burhenn’s political frustration and aimed at finding a revolutionary yet pacifist way in a world where, these days, it seems warring comes quick. Lyrically, it sings the voice of the collective frustration. Musically, you can hear echoes of early PJ Harvey, politically-charged Nina Simone and Low-era David Bowie. It gets down and hip hop dirty, flirts with African melodies and rhythms, goes four-on-the-floor for all out dance jams and has plenty of percussion. Burhenn even plays drums herself on a couple of songs, and a 5-gallon bucket in homage to DC Street Go-Go on another. Truly a sophomore album fully armed."
