… and no, no, no it is no Poses. But really, what is?
And it isn't All the Days And Nights either.
But they were the sophomore and penultimate albums as we speak, and very specific masterpieces, one an ode, the other a threnody, and two personal best tough to repeat.
But Rufus' latest, Out Of The Game, is as good as anything else in his career, better than whole chunks of it. "Jericho" alone reminds you what a terrific melodist this man. he is like a Morrissey cum Jeff Buckley vocal mish mash with even greater operatic undertones, writing songs that Elton John could've imagined.
Ronson's production is way over the top, it's like a glass bottom boat of sound: it seems all surface and shallowness, but when you look deeper you can see the depths of the sound.
I am not quite twice through it, and around 4 songs have clicked and the rest are somewhere out there. "Rashida" starts like Brian Wilson before a strange, strange break returning you back to the verses.
Hold on, I'm gonna try and steal more ideas off NPR… nah, nothing there…
So, I am still getting used to it, and, wait I got this off NPR,, Ronson is a retro soul producer. I dunno, like his sister he is a child of dance more than soul and that is very obvious on Ronson's Version album.
Anyway, I love it so far and bet I love it more later.
