As of late, people haven't been able to stop talking about "STOP KONY 2012". Ever since the viral video by Invisible Children came out, individuals feel the need to mindlessly become expert politicians.
First of all, the genocide and war has been going on since 1986! There's no excuse for the fact that only now are they caring. Fall Out Boy knew about it in their "I'm Like A Lawyer" music video. That was made in 2009.
After watching the Kony 2012 vid, I remembered that first of all, Kony isn't even in Uganda anymore and that he has so many other warlords working for him, simply taking Kony down wouldn't do anything.
Second, Invisible Children Inc barely puts any of its funds towards actually helping Uganda. About 70% goes to making videos and paying the staff. It's pathetic.
I'm not saying that people should completely ignore the campaign and the issue that's going on in Darfur. However, people should educate themselves further on topics in order to get adequate information. I've known since 2006 about the armed conflict, and it's taken half a decade to gain any attention. Interestingly enough, President Obama hasn't signed any petitions or anything against the use of child soldiers, but Bush did.
Just another example of people blindly throwing their faith about.
