It's unfortunate that the infamous Who drummer cannot take part in the London Olympics. Considering he has been dead for 33 years it's no surprise that he wont appear. Well, in a life form he wont.
According to the band's manager, Bill Curbishley, Moon was issued an invitation to perform during the Symphony of Rock at August 12th's Closing Ceremonies. Curbishley told the London Sunday Times that he did get back to the Olympic people.
"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old'. If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him.
I love when things like this happen. Who is the person in charge who would have made created this invite? How did he even get on the list? Obviously some intern was asked to come up with every mega British band ever and send an email blast or something. It is simply too odd.
Keith Moon died on September 7, 1978 at 32 after taking an overdose of the sedative Clomethiazole which had been prescribed to help him with alcohol withdrawal. He was one of the great drummers of all time; a single minded juggernaut as great on Pete's poppier movies, on the "Substitutes" as on the "Won't Get Fooled Again". The Who NEVER RECOVERED from his death.
