Mary J. Blige's controversial ad for Burger King

Mary J. Blige is the star of a new Burger King commercial where she is praising the fast food chicken snack wraps. Standing on a table, the R&B diva is singing about the goodness of the wraps for 30 seconds with the following lyrics, ‘Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing wrapped up in a tasty, flour tortilla’! This is part of an effort to boost the sales of the giant burger joint, which is not doing that well these days.

This is so wrong at so many levels! First of all, does she need the money? Rumors say she got $2 million for these 30 seconds! Was this move necessary after all her record sales? Talk about selling out. Then why would she want to reinforce this racist stereotype of a black woman eating fried chicken, this is beyond me.

Then, do we really need to boost the sales of fast food restaurants in a country where obesity has never been so high? These fast food chains are the worst of the worst, they are terrible at every single level, at the health and ecological levels, and should totally disappear (I know!). Each bite of this thing is a step ahead on the path of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, and Burger King certainly doesn’t need the help of a multi-million recording artist to kill more people

However, the ad was pulled off the internet, and you cannot watch it on Youtube anymore. All of the reasons above were good enough to remove the commercial, but it was actually removed for completely different ones, like copyright grounds, and I am not exactly sure to understand this, since musicians sell their music to commercials all the time!  But for a minute I thought she has had some moral remorse.
