Promoter Goldenvoice buys 280 acres of land at Coachella Site

Goldenvoice, the very successful Coachella promoter, has announced this past week they had purchased 280 acres of land in Indio, the site of the annual massive festival. This land includes Eldorado Polo Club, Triangle Bar Farms, Fish Creek, and Ambassador Glen Holden’s property and it is located where Coachella goers camp and park.

But why? Why did they actually buy the land? According to the LA Times, it will enable the concert promoter to increase its Coachella presence, and ‘perhaps add jazz, blues and Latin concerts to its schedule’. What? So it will be even bigger?

Nevertheless, nobody can be sure about Goldenvoice’s intentions, since Paul Tollett and Skip Paige declined interview requests to comment about the purchase; but it sure reinforces Coachella’s (as well as the Stagecoach festival) commitment to the city of Indio.

Indio Mayor Glenn Miller declared: ‘With them purchasing this, the sky is the limit,’… ‘I've asked [Goldenvoice] as the mayor to work together with Empire Polo Club and the Eldorado Polo Club to promote more concerts, maybe not concerts as big as Coachella or Stagecoach, but a Latin concert, as we have a large Hispanic community out here, or maybe a jazz and blues event.’

Economically, it sure is a very good thing for Indio, and it is not a surprise the mayor is all excited about the news! The festival is growing to more gigantic proportions each year, and they are expecting 90,000 people per day for six complete days this year.

For Jeff Castelaz, owner of Dangerbird Records and Management in Los Angeles Silver Lake area, ‘Goldenvoice are upping their game out in the desert’, and the purchase of the land made them ‘move from renter to community stakeholder’.

Mayor Miller is even suggesting they could build a hotel there, and make all kinds of improvements for the festival-goers.

So we have to expect more concerts in the area, probably not a Coachella every weekend, but many smaller events throughout the year!
