Angels and Airwaves At Studio At Webster Hall

Angels and Airwaves have a distinct spacey sound that hasn't earned them enough fame. Perhaps they are too 'arty' perhaps vocalist Tom Delonge's voice is far too nasal. I am unsure of the reason they don't get tremendous radio play.

They actually have a unique sound, and unique is hard to find. I have seen them live and was quite impressed. Alot of their work is programmed so it can be easy to dismiss as pre recorded. A light show and tons of smoke machines with laser makes small clubs feel like stadium and Delonge is able to fill a stage with his presence.

His persona is not the frat boy tit joke maker that he oozes when on tour with Blink 182. Instead he is a calmer more thought filled performer who still reciprocates the energy that the audience gives to him.

A tiny venue and a somewhat hefty price (I saw them for $11.00 just a couple years ago) but well worth it for the intimacy of The Studio at Webster Hall, Monday May 14.
