1. I'd Do Anything – Davy Jones – The thing with Davy is he is truly a song and dance man, coming from English Dancehall (and a horse jokey!), by the age of 16 he was on Broadway singing this song and vying for a Tony. That is one reason his live shows are so bizarre, the Monkees were the anomalies.
2. Orange Color Sky – Nat King Cole – Nat King Cole covered it, but I bet Bjork would kill it dead.
3. Never, Never – Eric Contractor – Now I got it, Roy Orbinson.
4. Precious Memories – Bob Dylan – Quite why Bobby chose to play this as a calypso (in Knocked Out Loaded), I can't tell you. It doesn't really work.
5. Papa Gene's Blue's – The Monkees – Written by Nesmith, very early in the Monkees, career, the fast paced first chorus is a thing of joy."plaaaaay magic fingers…"
6. Human Upskirt – Pissed Jeans – Are these guys playing around town? I wanna see em again.
7. Heaven On Their Mind – Murray Head – I just got a tix to see it on Broadway.
8. Giving Him Something He Can Feel – EN Vogue – Great bass lick -like, enormous.
9. Poses – Rufus Wainwright – It is easy to call this a great New York song, or a great Gay song, but really it is simply a great song period… I think I'm gonna write a post about it. I have been think of writing a post calling Rufus an Elton John in waiting, but this is grabbing my interest more. Rufus wanders across 5th avenue drunk with his new guy while tthrowing away Oscar Wilde bon mots like "Love is a game and true love is a trophy"
10.Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry – Darlene Love – Since Phil Spector is a convicted murderer, let's transfer ALL OF our love to Darlene.
