On Saturday night, the duo Gorgon Zoloft had a record release show for their 7”‘Back to Nature’ at Origami Vinyl, and they were making much more noise than could be expected from just two guys with a bass and a drum.
‘Free cheese’ said someone in a crowd, referring to their strange moniker, but it was not the strangest thing about them, their post-punk, post-noise-rock was accelerating with abruptness over a puzzling chord progression and some crazy high-pitched vocals, that both guys were often shouting by turns.
From the Origami loft, Matt Perozzi on bass and Thomas Jefferson on drums were playing ina sort of violent urgency which wasn’t taking itself seriously, as the two guys were screaming like mad men some weird and repetitive vocals, furiously vociferating after some invisible enemy, while seemingly running away from it.
The drums were rolling, the bass roaring and the whole thing sounded part-funny, part-crazy, part-sickly, creating a sort of anxious-jackhammer tempo that was triggering some moves among the Origami crowd.
They actually were fun to watch, and their impetuous and speed-up performance had attracted a good crowd appreciating their unique loud sound. With only 100 copies available, their ‘Back To Nature’ 7", is actually their first release, and was recorded and released in a complete DIY manner. And the cover art, a mysterious abstract painting with bright colors, may be reflecting what they do with music.
