I am going to be very superficial and kind of hypocritical here, I have made a list of the worst album covers of 2011. After all these best of lists, it is time for a worst of list! I actually haven’t listened to any of these albums, I have only made my choice based on the covers, they say don’t judge a book by its cover? I have judged albums by their covers, and I am pretty sure that the music sucks too.
– Limp Bizkit – ‘Gold Cobra’: Totally ugly, three naked witches and a cobra,… everyone is saying they look like the three Kardashian; yeah may be, for me they look like three versions of Steven Tyler.
-David Guetta – ‘Nothing but the beat’: The cover is not remarkable by anything, but there is Guetta on the cover, of course. Enough said.
– Lou Reed and Metallica – ‘Lulu’: Disturbing, nobody wants to see a woman in such abad shape even if it is some armless mannequin. I know no one wants to see Lou Reed’s face either.
-Lady Gaga – ‘Born this way’: totally repugnant, half-beast, half-motorcycle,Gaga has never tried harder. She looks like she is singing on a Metal album after having been run over by the Hell’s Angels.
– Coldplay – ‘Mylo Xyloto’: I don’t understand what’s going on there, it’s pretentious and exploitative, a sort of we-want-to-look-cool-with-graffiti, … just like the album’s name, I haven’t a clue of the meaning, but wait, there is none.
– Jane’s Addiction – The Great Escape Artist: Perry Farrell announced on twitter that he did the cover art as he did it before, and I am not sure it was a good idea. He said that it contains and represents all the things that the youth of today use as vehicles of escape from the world we are submerged in. Really? it looks like a nightmarish mushroom trip.
– Arctic Monkeys – ‘Suckit and See’: It’s just too easy to play the minimalists. I know the physical album format is dead, but you totally killed it with this. And no, you’re not the Beatles.
– Toro Y Moi – ‘Underneath the Pine’:I don’t know why, but I find this picture repugnant every time I see it, whatis he eating? Some kind of strange seafood or grapefruit?
– The Cars – ‘Move Like This’: Not terribly awful, but so blank and impersonal. These flower-background and black silhouettes, it just doesn’t bring any connection with the music.
– Chris Browne – ‘F.A.M.E.’: Way too busy and crowded. These rainbow colors made Chris Browne say I’d rather be a cartoon hero than a real life girlfriend beater,… yeah dream on!
