Piano Man, Billy Joel Hangin With The Big Boys

Congratulationsto Billy Joel.  Joel is officially the first ‘non classical’ pianist to have his portrait hung at the infamous New York City Steinway Hall.  Steinway Hall is the home to famed piano makers Steinway and Sons.

There are two others worthy of the walls, Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and Vladimir Horowitz.  Quoting Joel, he stated he was unsure “How Crazy” Horowitz would be about having the piano mans image so close to him.

Suggesting Vlad was an elitist?

Billy Joel has been around forever and has given greatly to the musical world- good and bad.  There was a period when everything he touched was perfection- then the brief period when he was just plain awful.  A ball player in a slump.

Joels portrait features him in the infamous black leather jacket, with a Steinway in the background.  How cool, how 80’s.
