We’ve all seen many, many artists jailed over the years for numerous reasons. Possession of illegally owned guns, possession of illegal substances, possession of an extremely high blood alcohol level, or even just possession of an unpleasant disposition when dealing with others are al lcharges we’ve seen brought against our favorite artists. These artists then serve jail time which could range from 4 hours, to 2 years or more and then they’re out inthe world once more creating music.
In my 17, almost 18 years, on this earth I don’t think I have ever heard of an artist who broke out of jail. However, this is the story I heard as I listened to a local radio station this morning.
Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, was reported to have escaped from Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Jamaica with seven other inmates, in an elaborate break out that included smuggled guns, officers being taken hostage, and an officer dying of a heart attack. Apparently twelve others were also injured in the escape. The group of eight escapees then made off in a maintenance truck that was waiting outside the prison fort hem.
Vybz and his fellow convicts were even listed as Jamiaica’s most wanted. As dazzling as this sounds, it was all a hoax!! A giant lie, probably made up by some of Vybz Kartel’s groupies to keep him in the news. Kartel is still in prison, being held as a suspect in two murders. He’s been in jail since October1st under the charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana. As much as his fans would like for him to escape, it appears that he will be there for quite some time.
