Singles Going Steady, Week Of December 21st, 2001

50 Words For Snow – Kate Bush – A very beautiful meditation on winter with her always evocative piano taking center position. Kate's influence is legend and this should add to her reputation. I plan to listen a lot more before I attempt a full length review. Grade: B+

My Life II  The Journey Continues Act One – Mary J Blige – Remember when Mary J wasn't a drag? This has its moments, and the woman is a powerful singer. But man what a mope. Grade: B

Come Through For You – Javier Colon – "The Voice" winner with an impressive piece of pop music product. Sure, it sounds manufactured but it sounds WELL MANUFACTURED. Grade: B

Born This Way Remix – Lady Gaga – Includes the single worst moment of her career not on the Thanksgiving Special: Foster The People's "The Edge Of Glory". Grade: C+

Keys And Codes Remix 0- Death cab For Cuties – Second time round for their worst songs ever. Yeasayer,  Cut Copy don't help.  Grade:C

That's Life – Landau Eugene Murphy Jn – Talent show winner performs pretty good versions of the great American songbook. Grade: B

Here And Now – Nickelback – May well be singlehandedly responsible for the death of rock. Grade: D

The Muppets – The Muppets  – Flight Of The Condors guys wrote the original songs, and they aren't much. Try convincing yourself "Life's A Happy Song" s anything close to a Paul Williams piece of perfection. You can't because it isn't. Grade: B-

Better Days – Fonda – Indie rock less generic than the title suggests. Grade: B

Mount Modern – Dad Rocks! – Over arranged folk from Denmark but give it awhile and the songs charms are sneaky and may get under your skin. Grade: B

Elevate – Big Time Rush – Remember LFO? BTR can't buff their shoes. Grade: C-
