I really hate Amanda Palmer sometime but then I realize I really love her. So I guess I don't hate her at all. She gets a bit nauseatingly hip and I hated her last release but hey- we cant all be amazing all the time.
Enter Ukulele Anthem", a song written with fan suggested lyrics via Twitter (I had to 'unfollow" Amanda- she's a Twitter junky and was blowing up my phone with crap so much that I had a breakdown) What came out of the collaboration is a simplistic and fun and at times smile worthy song. Amandas shreiky vocals are not hear to seduce they're almost the nerdcore pocket protector squaks of a Catholic schoolgirl in polyester.
But in true form the thrift shoppe brigade triumph in a song which explains how the world would be a better place if people just had a 4 stringed uke of their own.
Case in point opening lyrics:
sid vicious played a four-string fender bass guitar and couldn’t sing
and everybody hated him except the ones who loved him
a ukulele has four strings, but sid did did not play ukulele
he did smack and probably killed his girlfriend nancy spungen
if only sid had had a ukulele, maybe he could have been happy
maybe he would not have suffered such a sad end
he maybe would have not done all that heroin instead
he maybe would’ve sat around just singing nice songs to his girlfriend
And so the song continues with just the plucking of the instrument. It's not bad, but it wont get heavy rotation simply because of he annoying pitch- but its fun, very fun, and I think that's the point.
You can get this song on bandcamp for free + donation- you should grab it. Amanda Palmer is the college girl who never left campus, eating raman and showering maybe every couple days while wearing rain boots in the summer. Just a bit quirky but not enough to really hate.
