Sharks: Daytrotter Session Reviewed

There is some sort of magic in the Daytrotter studio. Simply said every band I adore that has stepped in there has produced a fantastic session.  Not a tanker in the lot and considering its stripped down- you'd expect something to falter.

Sharks, the boys from Leamington Spa England must endure the burden of being compared to The Clash far too often.  Nearly everything you'll read about them (sadly including this!) will indicate this.  Although I do hear Clash inspired guitar work, the similarity ends there.  These Daytrotter Sessions actually conjure up some working man Springsteen for some reason.  The four songs chosen are outstanding.  Just enough minimalistic sound to let the realness of the band shine through.

Its easy to be compared but its worth the effort to ignore and move on.   "Glove in Hand", sounds brand new and the bass is fantastic.  "It All Relates" background vocals are so out of line I wonder if he had a monitor, but rather than grating its endearing.  "Blood Buzz' sounds sexy and dark.  A painful lament…which just makes it sexier.  "Fallen on Deaf Ears' caused a one girl living room pogo party.. I'm not naming any names on that one.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the band on Wednesday when they open up the AP Tour in Connecticut.  I have been looking forward to this for a long time.  I am a huge fan, I adore Daytrotter for the timely download and I suggest you skidaddle over and download it this instant.
