Memphis May Fire: Worcester Palladium Thursday October 13th, 2011 Reviewed

As Matty Mullens ran on to the stage the entire audience took a collective deep breath- and didn’t exhale for 30 minutes.

So if this was Texas post hardcore bands Memphis May Fire's intent, then success.

There are many hardcore bands that show up, scream at you, head bang and leave.  A proverbial wham bam  thank you ma'm. Memphis May Fire decided to grip you by the neck and hold you captive.

The audience shouted back and whipped into a sweaty frenzy the mosh pit became a human missile launching sight.  I swear it wasn’t crowd surfing it was a flurry of projectile bodies and it was intoxicating.

Memphis May Fire has been around since 2006 and were, as rumour has it, a Southern rock band.  I can’t even imagine these guys doing  “Sweet Home Alabama” and if true, its actually pretty cool (and wise!) that they turned directions.

At the Palladium, lead singer,  Matty Mullins was a true master of ceremonies and despite a low mic (what the hell was the deal there Mr. Soundboard Guy?), the perfection of his voice complimented the chaos he created.

Pretty amazing stuff.  As part of Motel 6’s “RockYourself To Sleep Tour”, MMF is in the company of Alesana.  Could this be my new favorite duo?  I think so.
It is rare that I want to roll back the clock to see a concert again, but this show I absolutely would love to relive.

Just this year MMF has become part of the Rise Records family.  This could be the perfect match to get this band some attention. Their album “The Hollow” has come out proud with a rather disturbing (yet brilliant!) video.  I actually feel one step ahead of the curve in my new admiration for this group.

I am thrilled to have seen them for the first time at The Worcester Palladium.  The venue has a huge stage but its low the ground the band used every inch of that stage with electric (and contagious!) energy.   I didn’t want their set to end.  I found it too short, I wanted more.  Actually, I still do want more- let’s get them to loop on back to the Northeast when this tour closes.
