We have all laughed at Steve Martins balloon hat arrow through the head banjo routines. Outrageously funny material delivered with banjo accompaniment and a grey haired guy in a white suit.
Of course, Steve Martin rose to mega stardom being featured in numerous comedies and movies over the years. What has remained consistent is his musical work. We reported earlier on his tour and now come the accolades.
The award given by The International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in Nashville last week was presented to The Steep Canyon Rangers, Martins band. In true comedic fashion Martin accepted with, "I want to thank all the other nominees … for losing," The event was held at the Ryman auditorium in Nashville TN.
"I've been playing banjo for 50 years, but performing in a band I've never done. The hardest part was talking and tuning."
Martin was also credited for introducing Blue Grass music to a more diverse audience. When I play a concert hall somewhere I know half the audience isn't even familiar with bluegrass," Martin said. "That way we really reach a really wide audience for this music [that] I love, and that I love listening to."
