Depeche Mode, was one of the coolest 'techno' bands of the 80's. Great songs for the dance floor with lyrics that cut like razor blades.
So then, why on Earth is Susan Boyle slowing the song "Enjoy The Silence" to a pathetic crawl? I find it so disorientating. I keep wanting to spin it faster. This take away the horrible too slow melody and add the pitch highs of a dog whistle and a great song becomes a nightmare. It'll be on her new album, Someone to Watch Over Me, which will be in stores November 1.
Rolling Stone is carrying the exclusive stream, which is perfectly appropriate since the song and the site are of the same caliber.
Now- for some self serving quoting
"The melody of the song is just beautiful," Boyle tells Rolling Stone, "but really that lyric sounds like it will touch so many people in the way it touched me." Doubtless: the way her voice leaps on the word harm is impressive in its vulnerability. 'Someone to Watch Over Me' will be out November 1st, but you can hear our exclusive premiere of 'Enjoy the Silence' above.
Truth is the only harm here is to your ears and to the memory of the original version
