It's always nice to hear of a teen star not being a hot mess whore or good two shoes fraud. Such is the case with Demi Lovato who a year ago had a very public entrance into rehab for psychological help. As a kid Lovato stated she was bullied and tormented which lead to an eating disorder and then the manifestation of self mutilation tendencies or 'cutting'. It's hard for me to think of these things when she was a child star obviously mentored and guided by loving parents and not pushed and manipulated right? I mean that had nothing to do with any emotional crisis, I'm sure.
But the beauty here is the rise above mentality of the now 19 year old Lovato. She performed at the Highline Ballroom and stopped the show to address her audience with the following:
“A year ago today … I was not in a good place,” “I needed help and I want anybody in this audience to know that if you’re struggling with one of the issues that I dealt with or a different issue, that you can get help, that you can recover and it’s possible if you just tell someone.”
“There are so many beautiful girls in this audience that don’t know that they’re beautiful, but they just are,” she said. “So I want to thank you guys for being there for me every single day I was away. I wouldn’t be here without you guys today.”
Reports indicate that girls in he crowd were holding up sign that said "Demi Makes Me Strong", what greater words and what huge responsibility for a still very young starlet.
Lovato also performed “How to Love,” a song about women’s insecurities and their struggles to find love, recorded by Lil Wayne.. I would have paid to see that- pretty fun stuff.
Be strong out there- it's a cruel world.
