Amy Winehouse And Tony Bennett's "Body And Soul" Reviewed

As part of his upcoming Duets II album, Tony covered Cole Porter's classic "Body And Soul" with the late Amy Winehouse.

It is a love song and it works as a love and Bennett, one of our greatest living singers (I make him # 2) gives a typically great performance on a song I'm a little tired of. Somebody once wrote that Bennett was so comfortable in singing it was like he was speaking in song. That natural fluidity.

Amy? Amy broke our hearts and this gorgeous version, like a junior Billie Holiday, is all rasp and tremolo emotion. A beautiful swan song. There is an undercurrent of pain in everything she sang and here, working round Bennett's patriachal pain, she is all come on masking sexuality masking subservient desire.
