It's time again for my annual Strummer ramble so sit back kids and enjoy. Today, August 21, 1952 an amazing man was born, John Mellor.
This average guy raised in semi average circumstance became an inspiration and a motivation to tons of people.
You may think of Joe Strummer as that sassy lead of the 80s Rock the Casbah' band The Clash, and he was. Joe Strummer as he renamed himself was so much more than that. If you had the opportunity to spend any time at all with him you would forever be touched by his amazing spirit.
A fantastic writer, singer, guitar man and thinker. Joe Strummer made being a bad boy rocker all the more cool by being smart. He wasnt just pissing on the system he was explaining the system as a whole. In an era when everyone was screaming 'Anarchy", Joe informed the musical consumer of the injustices and let you think for yourself.
Compassionate, loving, tolerant and just plain cute, Strummer was the only musician I have ever met that sucked the air out of my lungs til I thought I would faint. Awe is a great word for it. Nothing more than pure raw idol worship. I miss him, I miss his crew, I miss the voice and the laugh.
Today I suggest we all gettabitta rockin' in his honor. Cheers Joe.
