Five Deacdes Of Music!!!

Here I am, fifty-three and still a music obsessive. How about a quick trip through the decades??

1950s
I was four when the decade ended but what I remember of it was Disney songs, Jim Reeves, Arabic music and Elvis.

1960s
The Beatles ruled the 60s from just about one end to the other. When I was six years old my parents had a trail separation fox six months. When I got back my sisters first question to me was “Whose your favorite Beatle”. It was all downhill after that.

1970s
Started with singer songwriters like Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond and Paul Simon. Listened to Arabic pop like Sabbah and Farid El Attrusch and semi-classical like Fairuz. Mmoved onto to disco but the moment I heard Johnny Rotten that was that and the last four years were all punk merging into New Wave all the time.

1980s
Began with rap and ended with me backing completely out of popular music. I remember Bob Nevin raving about Bjork’s first band the Sugarcubes and refusing to even listen.

1990s
East Coast hip hop and grunge and finally crossover hip hop like Lauryn Hill or the Fugees. Around mid decade I got heavily into Merengue: Grupo Mania, Jerry Rivera, Elvis Crespo, Milly Quesilada.

2000
Alt rock, hip hop and ended with a great deal of dance and electronica.

2010
Who knows but I can’t wait to find out!!
