Jon Fratelli was the charismatic frontman of the Scottish pop band The Fratelli's. They were fantastic and I was greatly disappointed that their local show was canceled literally days before it was to occur. I will never have that opportunity again, as the band is no longer together.
Jon Fratelli is now on his own. Solo Fratelli. There are times on his new release "Psycho Jukebox" where I can see glimmers of Fratelli greatness, and if song 1 and 2 were completely removed from the lp it would do no harm, and may actually help. Like an old car that's been idle too long it takes a bit of warming up to get revving.
I am not a fan of the lack of beat to these songs. More 'rock and roll' then angsty he's a Scottish Springsteen with a Lennon impersonator voice. That's the best I can describe it.
I would bet you every Beatle fan- true Beatle fan- would really like this.
I'm more disappointed theres not a banging song like The Fratelli's, "Flathead'
Torture? Well no, other than tracks 1 and 2 and the horrific outtro on "Oh Shangri La" which had me ready to kick the screen out of my computer. It's tolerable and tame and unimpressive but not even worth hating. It's just sound.
I 'liked' Jon Fratelli on Facebook a long time ago, I have watched the evolution of this album and had great expectations. I wasn't exactly looking for The Fratellis Part 2, but I was hoping he was the heart of the band, which I can tell he was not.
He is a talented mainstream musician with a rather great voice that he has chosen not to use on this album. Thank you Spotify! You just saved me $15.00!
Now its up to me to find out who gave The Fratellis the balls, stay tuned.
