"Captain America: The First Avenger" Reviewed (More Or Less)

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is a pretty good super hero flick, taking 90 pound weakling Steve Rogers into the one man Fuhrer beater Captain America.

Played by the Human Torch, Chris Evans, Steve is a dateless loser around 1941. Nobody wants him. Even the Army doesn't want him. But a German scientist working for the allies, changes his 4F and makes him a soldier to be the first in an army of super soldiers because he doesn't like bullies.

It works and with GCI magic (actually reversed GCI magic but nevermind) he grows in heights, muscles, and pubic hair one may assume. The scientist is shot dead by a double agent working for (Heil) Hydra, the Red Skull lead breakaway from the Third Reich who want to -ta dah- rule the earth. Anyway, the army becomes only the Cap and he is shipped off to raise US Bonds till, laughed at when performing for some soldiers near the front, who goes off to save his best friend and 80 other POWs.

So this hybrid WW2 yarn ain't bad, a bit of a snooze and if you have ever seen a real WW2 movie, a "Dirty Dozen" or a "Guns Of Navarone" you might think this is all a little lame beyond lame. Though the trick ending is a doozy.

Musically, the soundtrack is all very orchestrated ra ra by the humbers by Alan Silverstein. Works in context. Except for "Tavern In The Town" heard in a pub and "Star Spangled Man" by pretty, long stemmed chorines trying to make you part with your bucks.
