Iman has been praising Spotify like a preacher man and lo and behold my invite finally came up. As a loyal Blackberry user, I first had to face the disappointment that even in Premium mode there would be no mobile app for me. Strike One.
Really what's the harm in giving it a go for nothing. So basically I am test driving Spotify and I can tell you its a bit overwhelming.
I threw down bands like The Germs and The Strawberry Alarm Clock. Both showing up with large catalogs of material to chose from.
My issues with this service is what if you don't want to name a band- what if you have no idea. As a Pandora fan I like setting up 'Art Brut' radio and learning The Cribs, The Rakes and others but Spotify sort of makes you tell it what you want.
I am a woman.
I never know what I want and if I do it's going to change in 10 minutes anyway.
So heres my first hot mess Spotify Stew
1- Pitbull "Hey Baby", pure ghetto trash
2- Strawberry Alarm Clock "Incense and Peppermints" weird tin sounding version. Wheres the real one?
3- The Cure " Boys Don't Cry" finally something that felt right
4- The Germs "Sex Boy" ok things are getting better
5- Adam and The Ants "Stand and Deliver" Spotify has a crap selection of Adam Ant
6- Gang of Four "Damaged Goods' one of the best songs of all time
7- Modest Mouse "Florida" meh..
8- ELO "Turn To Stone" lately I just frikken love ELO for some reason
9- The Beatles "Fixing A Hole" this got pulled over from my iTunes, no clue how
10- Rising Stars of Country 'Universal" WTF is this crap that just showed up on my que. Strike 2.
Spotify has two strikes in two hours. If you have some time to hang around and click and think of things to hear- this is great. I'm still learning so I will keep trying.
It's better than a spinal tap that's for sure.
