New Music Week Of July 18th, 2011

1. Crystalline – Bjork – It kinda figures that in a serious of songs about sounds in music, Bjork would picl stalellites first and foremost. And it is kinda too tinling to be anything less than irritating till the last minute when thuderbolds of drums erupt on the track and drown the crystallines in question, and then they get the last word. Track Of The Week.

The Adventures Of Rain Rance Maggie – red Hot Chili Peppers – This song is so narrow in scope it is simply depressingly what it is and what you knew it would be. At this point of RHCP's  it is kinda impressive they've lost so little off their fast ball. Still thumps on its bass, soars on its guitar, hints at the blues. but really… years and years for this product?

Outlaw – 50 Cents – This isn't bad Fitty but it ain't great/ I like the slapping tin all the way through, and the rap flows well enough.

Summer Solstice – Crystal Antlers – A defractured, lo-fi oft sell that when it kicks in sounds heavily weird alty.

My Moment – Rebecca Black – Uh oh. Black didn't need something great. She needed  something either a) Friday Part II or b) just as big a novelty. Instead she got a piece of second rate dance-pop driss. Not "this is my moment', "this was my moment". Hey, maybe she can go back to being a kid.

Love Is Real (feat Holly Miranda) – Theophilius London – No, this isn't particularly original. But it is a particularly intresting variation on disco and a well written song.

Hey Superstar – Madina Lake – Hard blown heavy riffarama.

Sneaky Freak –  Imelda May – Rockabilly from some chick outta Wales… surely some mistake here? Oh, wait, outta Ireland. Now I get it.
