Be The One (Feat Trey Songz – Lloyd- After two dog singles, this is the one that should push the new album into the charts. For one thing, Trey has been quiet all year so the world is ready to hear him again, and for another the G Unit vet is in full form r&b soul singer form. TRACK OF THE WEEK.
Say You Like Me – We The Kings – Rock pop ordinaire for the alt teens. Helen nailed it yesterday: " See, the problem with this band is they never have a hook." Or a melody for that matter.
Suitcases – Dara Maclean – We shouldn't complain when a singer songwriter ends up being a Godhead. We should complain when they try and become a self-up book. Still, this country piano ode with its "there's a better way when you know you're forgiven" is petty and melodic. Forgiven for what?
Mis/Understianding – We Came As Romans – That cretinous bowls of hell vocal is getting really old, really fast. I love the jittery voice, the bass hook is terrific the guitar melodic. BUT THE DAMN LEAD VOCAL.
The Living Proof =- Mary J. Blige – I really disliked this at first but listening a couple of more times… it has been awhile since we've had a full, red blooded, soul ballad. Maybe this ain't a good one, but it is still the real thing and Mary goes for it. She is powerful yet restrained and she digs deep. I haven't really checked out the lyric but I am sure we are being given some tough meat about crawling up from Jim Crowe days.
Eyes Of Black – Unearth – I did check out the lyric to this one: "aaaarrrrrgh". Pretty prophetic. Again, the drumming is excellent, doesn't leave a whole and it is fast and very, very hard. It seems to have taken over for the bass as well.
