It’s already July, and with the summer there are even more free concerts than usual, much more than you can handle. This is a list of what you can see for $0 in LA in July, but I may have forgotten some:
Every Monday, there is a free residency in these four clubs, so starting Monday July 4th, Races (formerly Black Jesus) plays at the Bootleg theater, LA Font plays at the Silverlake Lounge, Andy Clockwise at the Satellite, and Crystal Antlers at The Echo; and of course, each Monday there is a different line-up before the residency band.
Next Thursday, the series ‘Also I like to rock’ starts at the Hammer museum with Graffiti 6, Eastern Conference Champions, then will continue with Hanni El Khatib, The Soft Pack the 14th, Grouplove, Milo Greene the 21st, The Henry Clay People, Lady Danville the 28th.
Saturday 9th, The Getty Museum has also a rock series with Best Coast (again!) who will be doing her thing in the beautiful setting just above the 405 freeway, then Lord Huron and Boom Bip will play on the 30th.
Each Monday, starting the 11th, The Detroit Bar in Orange County is having a free show with Death Hymn #9, … I saw them a little while ago and they are awesome.
At Origami Vinyl, it is a non-stop free performances during July, and we will have Man Your Horse the 3rd, Hideous Men + MMCIII the 6th, Gardens and Villa the 11th, Correatown the 13th, The Cthulhus the 17th, The Forms the 18th, Slutever the 25th, Milo Greene the 28th, When I Was 12 the 30th, and Les Blanks the 31st!
Vacation Vinyl has Wife on the 8th, Midlife Vacation on the 20th, and Cinder Cone on the 29th.
Amoeba will have free shows too, Iceage is announced the 21st and Meklit Hadero the 23rd, but more shows may be added as it is often the case.
No Age will do a free show at the Levitt Pavillon McArthur Park on the 21st
Downtown LA, the Pershing Square summer series will have A Flock of Seagulls & Little Red Radio on the 16th, The Romantics & Suddyn on the 23rd, and 10,000 Maniacs & Sultans of Mambo on the 30th
And then the Annual Twilight Dance Series at The Santa Monica Pier will bring us The SaMo Mambo on the 7th, The Bangles and Caracol on the 14th, Missy Higgins and Kim Churchill on the 21st, Slackers and Star Pool on the 28th.
There is no way I can go to all these shows! And it is only for July…
