Kevin Moyer has been advertising this compilation for a long time on the Elliott Smith message board, but it seems that it is finally here: ‘Live From Nowhere Near You volume II’, a 3-disc compilation will feature unreleased, rare and new tracks from a long list of artists:
Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst with Spoon's Britt Daniel, the Strokes' Julian Casablancas and Fabrizio Moretti, Modest Mouse, the Shins' James Mercer, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Ryan Adams, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker, the Decemberists' Chris Funk and John Moen, Daniel Johnston, Menomena, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, Gang of Four's Dave Allen, Viva Voce, the Helio Sequence, and many more.
This is what Kevin said about the Elliott Smith’s contribution:
‘Included will be TWO songs with Elliott Smith. One is a never heard before or released solo studio recording. The other is a song that he did with Neil Gust (of Heatmiser), Jim Talstra, and John Moen of The Decemberists.’
And about the compilation itself:
‘For those of you who do not know, or might need a reminder : “Live From Nowhere Near You” is a benefit concept CD collaborating street musicians with professionals to tell a story of life on the streets, and to and from there, giving ALL of the profits to homeless and street youth programs of the Pacific NW. The album was done with no label support or staff… I recorded the majority of the music in my attic studio and basement, in donated spaces, and live on the streets and in alley ways or under bridges. Volume One was released in 2003, and Volume Two was just picked up for release by Greyday Records, hitting store shelves everywhere on July 19th, 2011.’
All the sales will benefit Outside In a local non profit organization focused on providing aid and counseling to homeless youth.
