A Future Movie About Brian Wilson

The Los Angeles Times announced it on Thursday, and it was all over the blogs the next day: A drama based on Brian Wilson's personal and professional story is in the making.

Oren Moverman, the co-writer of the 2007 Bob Dylan movie ‘I'm Not There’ has been hired to write the script, and the production will be assured by Bill Pohlad (‘The Tree of Life’) and TV successful producer, John Wells (‘ER’, ‘The West Wing’).
As everyone knows, Wilson was the creative force behind the Beach Boys, whose career culminated in 1966 with ‘Pet Sounds’, but he also battled a mental illness and a drug addiction.
However, it will not be your usual biopic as Pohlad told the site 24 Frames:
‘I have no interest in making a biopic. What's fascinating to me is to look at the different elements in his life, like that super-creative period when he was doing 'Pet Sounds' and the later part when he was redeemed.’

Would it be like for ‘I’m not there’? Will several actors play Wilson at different stages of his life? Pohlad said it could be a possibility, but not really the same way than for the Dylan movie.
The producers have acquired rights to many of Wilson’s songs, but don’t expect a best of, ‘We're not thinking about this as the hit parade — that would be the biopic thing’ continued Pohlad.

I am intrigued by their approach of the subject as Pohlad also added:
‘You don't have to know the music here in the same way you didn't have to know the math in 'Beautiful Mind’. What we want to do is let you experience the story in a personal way.’

Sure, but is it a good comparison? A lot of people don’t know about math but who hasn’t heard ‘God only knows’ or ‘Wouldn't It Be Nice’?
