Looking like fat Elvis in a silver jumpsuit, the decline of Sly Stone has been a terrible indictment of the power of drugs to destroy us.
At his BB King gig the other week, former Family Stone bassist Larry Graham shouted him out loud and hard, "Without Sly none of us are here," Larry stated.
But when I saw Sly at the same venue in 2008, I was disappointed. The man was all over the place, and while, admittedly, Sly was always an MC first and foremost, still, he wandered off stage intermittently and didn't seem capable of keeping the set in his grasp.
So it was a friend's car and he claims the coke wasn't his though, given Sly's problems with the drug, he shouldn't be left in the State, let alone vehicle as cocaine.
If found guilty he faces jail time. Not a happy story at all.
