A coupla of spins thru the Mark Ronson produced Black Lips album Arabia Mountain and I can't decide whether the clarifying is making or killing the album.
I like my dirty punk, well dirty. And on first listen I was convinced Ronson fucked them up the ass.
Listening to the daytrotter session convinced me I was right. "Dumpster Driver" is so much better on daytrotter, a certain muddiness helps the proceedings: it is like they are slosheder but still in control.
On the other hand, "Go Out And Get It" -the album's best moment, is much better under Ronson's pop smart approach then the minimalistic daytrotter.
I wonder what ronson thought he was doing? What did they need? Is it like. Surely not sweetening?
