Knowing Nirvana is done cuz Kurt is dead or knowing Hole is dead and Courtney is still alive? To me its the later. I wasn't nor will I be a major Nirvana fan, Kurts death did not bring me to my knees. I honestly didn't even think twice. Watching Courtney go from adorable mess in Hole to Hollywood vixen to Twitter junkie/whore is worse than any bullet hole. Kurt ended it- Courtney never ends its like acid reflux flying up and gagging you with its vile bile.
"Softer Softest", may scream Cobain to some but to me it screams cool chick. He may have mentored her or the band with this number but in the end its the rasp and pathetic gravel to Loves voice that makes this song almost emotionally draining. Sorry- yea its a great song and its a painful song.
Comparing this to modern Courtney Love isn't even worth the neuron discharge. Hole is gone and maybe it left with the spirit of Cobain or maybe it drifted off in the smoke of a crack pipe but I will tell you as plain as I stand here today.

I salute thee sir. My favorite Hole track and incidentally the first song I learned to sing and play guitar to. Soulful hurt and poetic. Very much lyrics by Love and melody line by Kurt but a killer tune regardless. Terrible that she became a tabloid totty and psycho hosebeast after all that glittering potential displayed in the 90s but we will always have this.
