Ramona's "Trophy Wife" Reviewed

Streaming music has its limitations.

As we less than patiently await the release of Brighton,'s brightest Ramona's first album, "Trophy Wife", a new song streaming on their sound cloud here: http://soundcloud.com/weloveramona/trophy-wife, gives us a taste of a perfect lead off song for the second album. This is a not a move forward but a perfecting of a patented sound the world hasn't really heard yet.

The guitars rev up like the Ramones meet the Gogos, meanwhile Karen's vocals are too light to be sultry, too offhand to be American, she glides thru songs, making her point where she chooses to. The effect is proforma Ramona : both slight and strong at the same time. It is a study in what the job of a pop song is. The pleasure is exquisite and in its own way, certainly when compared to the infinite tracking bombast of modern rock performance, very subtle. "I'm not quite first and that's what hurts" they sing as they build up their fanbase.

But now here is why I probably will never write about the song in months and months. There is no mp3.
