Always late to the party I am. Daytrotter is a fun place to hang that has been mentioned numerous times here at rocknyc. I always thought it was a bit hipster but I just scored another amazing download.
Yeah, Nevershoutnever, Christofer Drew did his thang for the site. Sounding less hippy cool cat and a bit more settled "This Shitz Gets Old" has a weird patriotic break in the middle. I have no idea why its there but because of it and my disdain for Patriotic music it gets deleted. It was good too, up til that point but nope- off it goes.
Piggy Bank scared the crap out of me. What the hell barefoot hoe down stuff is going on here? Its like Hee Haw all over again. But wait is this the harmonica boy from Joplins really twang? Yeah, it is. I think its actually sort of interesting, it sound real and not an act. This is disturbing in two ways- 1) Drew is a hick. 2) Its a knee slapper.
Homesick Blues", now we got it. A lovely song that sound more like a garage jam session. Its fantastically good and it really has a great bluesy feel to it. Lets see, so far we've had Patriotic, hoe down and now this bluesy legit ditty. Could it be that Drew is more diverse than I gave him credit for? Is that arrogant kid on the forklift actually a talented man? Im not sure but the band is talented indeed
Losing all Intentions Moving in The Right Direction is a soft loungey song that just furrowed my brow til I got a headache. Who is Chris Drew and what the hell is he doing? The fan girls will be baffled. Um.. what do we do with this one? Its so pretty and so moody there has to be smoke involved. I don't really care cuz this is great background music. The twangy hick vocal is missing instead a trilly sort of scale climbing 'shoobeedoo' sort of thing. Well til the end when it sounds like Drew was abducted by aliens, must be the weed. It goes in to this really trippy musical number that I surprisingly love. Go figure.
