Monday Morning Rock In the West

1. Love Me Do – The Beatles – consider a let down at the time, it still is a relatively antimelodic workout saved by Lennon's harmonica. Lyrically? A dog with fleas.

2. Sound Of Plastic – Mark Ronson and the Business – Ugh. Euro-trashy dance blah.

3. Synesthete Song – Conor Oberst And the Mystic Valley band – Vladimer Nabakov, who would have hated this nonsong more than I do, suffered from it. He saw letters as colors.

4. Swinging With Karen Tonight – Gary Wilson – Yes it swings but sideways, everything in the melody feels off a note.

5. PercusienFa – Eric Mongrain – Acoustic guitar picker as ambient sounder.

6. Tired Of Sex (Tracking rough) – Weezer – No idea why Rivers released this but I am sure happy he did.

7. Girls And Boys In School – Glam rockers, songs need to be stronger but they sell em good on stage.

8. Someday – rob thomas – About as interesting as his name.

9. Once Upon A Time In The West – Ennio Morricone – Even if you haven't seen the movie, which is completely awesome, you would get a feel for this mythic Western where Leone finally beats Ford and makes the West his own. Henry Fonda is mindbogglingly evil, Charles Bronson never better and as the ugly? Jason Robards as the Achilles of the West.

10. Whippin' That Old T.B. – Merle Haggard – Country blues off his best album since the 60s. Love the yodelling.

11. Sleep Of The Just – Elvis Costello And The Attractions – if only he had played this between "American Without Tears" and "Little Palaces" – a dread song filled with the most horrifying of images. The story… a man in the army sees his sister in a girlie mag, with a strange reference to madonna, barely gives credit to its intense black heart,

12. Like A Virgin – Madonna – Yes, there was one in between which I didn't feel like reviewing. Let's hear Stefani write something this much fun.

13. Vanity – Sugar Minot – Lover's rock par excellence by the late great reggae star.

14. Stupid Girl – The Rolling Stones – Wanna shout misogy? be my guest.

15. Make Up – Lou Reed -What's with that trombone. How can a trombone be camp?

16. Brain Damage (feat Henry Rollins) – Stardeath – Great song, serious work out.

17. Been A Son – Nirvana – Another fucked up family.

18. Alice D. Millionaire – Country bobble experimental. Good stuff.

19. The Boys Of Summer – Don henley – First time I heard this was on SNL and I flipped out. It is still a wonder.

20.Only An Expert – Laurie Anderson – I've never been a big fan, "O Superman" alright but this stuff gets old fast.
