What the heck is a fanpack? Considering there are so few of us who still purchase physical cd's, I cant help but wonder how these things sell. Blondie was one of the most influential bands of the early 80's. It is now 2011. Front Goddess Debbie Harry is old enough to be your mother if not your grandmother, the rest of the band way past teenage.
So what is the target market for a fan pack? I'm thinking in most cases its the 13 year old girl or the 14 year old boy (if there is a video game in it)
Heres what the pack will get you 2 bonus tracks and a 132 page magazine stickers and what appear to be buttons. If we again take in to consideration that most magazines are online the only real bonus here is the 2 tracks that eventually will get leaked anyway. Stickers? I no longer carry a lunchbox and my skateboard is full and if you think I'm putting a Blondie sticker on my $40,000.00 car, you're high.
I'm very much looking forward to the new album and I will purchase it digitally. I think its a sure sign of a band out of touch to offer such a 'fan pack'
. I don't really see a huge influx of teenagers listening to this band but I do see a huge number of 40 and 50 somethings drooling on their keyboard in anticipation of purchase.
If you want to really give a more value 'fan pack' I suggest a numbered and maybe even signed lithograph- your fans own homes and need cool art to remind them they used to be hip. Save the trinkets for the grandkids.
