Blondie is back with a new upcoming album ‘Panic of Girls’ due in September and a new video for the song ’Mother’ was just released. The album will include songs sung in French, Spanish (beside English of course) and a cover of Beirut’s “Sunday Smile’(with Zach Condon as a special guest); it will be Blondie’s first album in eight years!
At 65, Debbie Harry still looks hot in black mini skirt and black vinyl boots, although her new hairdo looks a little bit on the Dolly Parton side to me.
The video, full of zombies trying to eat the audience at a concert in an antique theater, is supposed to be a homage to New York’s storied West 14th Street nightclub ‘Mother’. Yes I recognized an Andy Warhol cameo, and B52’s Kate Pierson, but explain to me the zombies? Do they mean they are like zombies, old and surviving nevertheless?
And what about the music? Energetic, with an undeniable hook and a new wave-ish vibe, it will need, I suppose, more than one listen to impress you, but even with that, it just stayed on the just-ok-level for me.
