Taylor Swift. This is a music site and this is about Taylor Swift doing a benefit performance.
First though, Tornados have been leveling the South, leaving hundreds of dead in its wake and destroying much of Tuscaloosa. this is the devastating work of nature in full force, though there are those who claim this may also be a side effect of global warming. From Carolina to Alabama, the US became pins in a game of bowling.
Swift is performing a quickly put together benefit on May 21st. "I was watching the coverage of the tornadoes backstage at rehearsals, and I wanted to do something for the families affected by the damage."
Taylor decided to do something really cool and which I swear more bands should do. Springsteen tends to do it but for other reasons. Taylor is going to let 13,000 fans watch her rehearse before Taylor's "Speak Now" tour:
"I've never opened a rehearsal to the public before, but I felt that inviting my fans to the last rehearsal for the Speak Now Tour would be a great way to raise money."
According to contactmusic: "Taylor has pledged all proceeds from the event – held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee – will be donated to relief funds for victims of a spate of tornadoes which have recently devastated parts of the Southeast US"
Forget the nature of the charity… I just think it would be fun to see more big time rock stars in a less controlled atmosphere. Look at it this way: if you are big enough, every single thing the public sees about you is a highly choreographed piece of PR bullshit. Maybe the mask can slip for a moment.
