1. As If We Never Said Goodbye – Glee – Glee only works for me when they move from pop to musicals: ergo, when the live up to their name and become what they are. Chris Colfer's version of this song cuts Clenn closes to ribbons (though not Patti Lupont). I was at "Sunset Boulevard" opening night on Broadway and it was an honor but only because Billy Wilder came out for the curtain (Billy Wilder? directed the movie, not to mention "Some Like It hot"). The musical was pretty and bland and Glenn close was a lousy idea. This cover does the difficult, he removes the gleam and close and the song really breathes for the frst time. Colfer has a terrific voice, just a wonderful, wonderful version. one of the best songs I've heard this year.
2. It's Over – Roy Orbinson – A tragic life and he wore it in his voice.
3. Mirrors tell Lies (feat Jimi Hendrix) – Bootsy Collins – A Hendrix sample, the man explaining what the goverment would do if a UFO showed in the sky: "we'd shoot it down") and he has a lovely melodic voice that veers between a slur and a song. It absolutely makes the track -a pure pleasure.
4. Kick It Over – Swingin' Utters – Lovely power pop in punk clothing.
5. Miss You – The Hold Up
6. Outside Inside – The Streets – The real OK Computer hides its amzement in sound waves.
7. Run The World (Girls) – Beyonce – Sublime use of Diplo sample. Terrific song, her best in years.
8. No Rockefeller – Poly Styrene – In hindsite, it is as though Poly came back to tell us we will be fine before disappearing forever.
9. Till The World Ends (Femme Fatale remix) – Britney Spears
10. Before It Explodes – Charice – Co-written by Bruno Mars, who is like an Elton John for another generation, without a bernie taubin and more than happy to rest on his pop chops.
