My Fave Tracks, Saturday, April 30th, 2011

1. God Save The Queen – the Sex Pistols -It is not that it sounds fresh, it doesn't. It is that it sounds revolutionary, and it is. The 21st century has been a great time for music, but what is missing is something like that. Music is great in and of itself, but it is no bigger or smaller than just that.: it is a great form of entertainment but it can't change the world any more.

2.Break My Heart – Estelle – By the numbers r&b and a big disappointment. The "American Boys" singer is so dull, so average. It is kinda sad.

3. Till I Hear It From You – Gin Blossoms – The death of leader Doug Hopkins essentially killed off one of the greatest grunge bands. But here was a post-Hopkins holler co-written by Marshall Crenshaw and it is a triumph. Hope Crenshaw (but dount Crenshaw) plays it tomorrow

4. Radio Girl – Marshall Crenshaw – Or this one for that matter.

5. Fast cars – The Buzzcocks – Ooooh, it makes me dizzy… maybe it is a metaphore for a 45 on a turtable?

6. Valerie – Richard Thompson – Statying in Crenshaw land, Marshall covered this terrific pop song with some of the very best rhymes EVER. I prefer crenshaws cover, but this has an additional verse.

7. I Am A Wanderer – Steve Earle – Pretty, smart, powerful . Shame about the rest of the album.

8. Perform this Way – Weird Al Yankovic

9. Blue Bayou – Linda Ronstandt – The personification of 70s soft rock L.A. style, note perfect cover.

10. Techno Fan – The Wombats
