In June of 2010 Mathew Leone got the shit kicked out of him. Worse, his head pummeled into the pavement kicked and left for dead by a man who was hell bent on beating his girl. Mathew paid the price for his intervention.
We worried we prayed and we donated in hopes to assist Leone in recovery. It looked pretty bad for a long time as his brain swelled as he had to re learn the most basic movement. A horror filled recovery that had us wondering if he would live.
He has and he has triumphed and on April 23rd hit the stage for the first time since the attack with the boys of Madina Lake. Along with his twin brother Nathan the band looks amazing and sounds fantastic and again I am in love with their sound.
I understand Leone is still in recovery but what a fantastic maiden voyage. You cant help but want to cheer him on after what hes endured and the power of his spirit. Its humbling to say the least. We have always called Madina Lake the nicest guys in rock and roll. I have seen them numerous times and they have always been full of smiles and well wishes and not an ounce of patronize. The guys are sincere.
So perhaps the good do survive. Doing the right thing is a great reward in itself. A breath taking return to the stage is more than I could have ever expected.
"My index finger was a little more difficult to control, which I thought was very interesting. It's hard to keep in time. But we're battling through, and we'll be OK," Leone said.
Next time you want to call in to work for a cold take a note of that.
Welcome back kid. Cant wait til you make it back East.
