Its festival time again! Bamboozle Bomb Warped and now Escape New York?
Modeled after Secret Garden parties in the UK we have The Hampton's version and its chock full of hipster!
Best Coast, White Rabbits and the Vaccines, and a of course more more more, to be announced soon. Aug. 5-7 on the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton, N.Y this 'lifestyle festival' is not intended to be your basic rock show in a field
Oh not not at all but rather a high end vendor populated soiree into the hip world of art school indie on an Indian reservation.
How posh….
The festival promoter Fred Fellowes supposedly had a chance encounter with Rocco Gardner. Who is Rocco Gardner? Why he's the man who brought us the infamous South By SouthWest Festival. Basically Rocco is an entrepreneur who's smart enough to see there are enough college kids maxed out on mom and dad and government loans to throw a hoe down and since hes been hanging with the tribes hell.. lets use their land too. Now we can add concerts to the Casino show cache!
If I sound a bit sarcastic on this well I sort of am. The idea of a 'high end' multi day music event is laughable at best. Dig this quote from Fellowes about Rocco:|
"He had been looking at ways to help them out and take their desire to look at live events as a way to generate not income but a more positive image for how tribes can leverage their unique position in America," Fellowes says. "Due to the unique nature of the lure of an Indian nation land, in that the same permit laws don't apply, it seems more appropriate to bring over the boutique festival model — something that's been growing hugely in the festival market over the last eight years in England."
If that's not the biggest gob of double speak I'm not sure what could be!
Single-day tickets will cost $100 and a weekend pass runs $275.
Best ending?
"We're also looking at extending this relationship with other tribes on other reservations around America," Fellowes adds, "once the initial trust has been established and they can see that it's worked for the Shinnecock."
Tacky Fest 2011. Be There.
