Steve Earle's fall from the greatest country rocker this side of Gram Parsons did not happen with his jailing from heroin possession. In 1995 with his great return he was still at the top of his game, and the follow up was a masterpiece and the follow up to that another masterpiece AND THEN WITH HIS FULL HARD ON POLITICAL ALBUM, he lost a coupla steps.
but having said that, whenever he gets the the Dukes back together he takes off his folkie with an agenda hat and sticks on his Stetson.
So when tix went on sale for Steve Earle and the Dukes at Town Hall on September 13th, I was there with $62 bucks including handling charges for 7th road in hand. Worth every penny, I betcha. "Guitar Town", "I Ain't Ever Satisfied", Copperhead Road",… here they come again and I can't wait. Just spare us the Townes covers and the political crap (except for "F the C" -he can do that because "people tell me that I'm paranoid, and I admit I'm getting kinda nervous, boy, it just gets tougher everyday, sitting round and watching while it slips away" -a couplet that jumps through all kinda strictures and scriptures to tell a truth beyond left, right or medium cool).
This is gonna be a concert of the year and if you ain't got a tix get one right now… I'll wait here.
