Spider Stacey of the Pogues responded to Patricks Stickles claim of hostile working enviroment opening for the band on a nine date tour, culminating in one of the most prestigious nights this year: the Pogues final concert (a terrific one by the way) at T5 on St. Patrick's day, inrock nyc's comments column.
"Why do you assume we are all assholes? This was a fairly successful attempt by the support band to garner some press for themselves. The fact that no one, absofuckinglutely no one from spinner or any of the other countless music publications that reported this non-story bothered to ask us for a response gives the impression that you want to believe we are all arrogant money grabbing assholes. Assume away.
Spider Stacy – A Pogue"
I am not sure why Spider is getting pissy with us. I wrote that Patrick was being think skinned about it. And while, call it force of habit, I did assume the Pogues were assholes, that is not the same as saying they were assholes. Plus, I don't care if they are, though anybody St. Joe loves can't be all bad so maybe I'm wrong.
And if that's the worse Patrick gets from the headliner… I was talking to a friend who told about how the headlining band paid off the soundman to lower the volume on the opening bands at a concert last week, so they didn't get blown off stage.
