I entirely disagree with nearly everything Helen said.
I am a 24 year old guy who grew up in Manhattan and was a member of the soccer, baseball and swim teams throughout high school, while being a member of the chorus (we did not have a glee club).
I enjoy this show immensely, and while I do not run to my TV every Wednesday (I don’t actually know what time it broadcasts), I have seen every episode (mostly on Hulu). I don’t watch this for the purpose of reminiscing of glory days gone by, but merely because I enjoy and appreciate talented singing and performing. I think the kids are great as is their teacher and the supporting cast.
I am also someone who goes to the theater regularly on Broadway (both musicals and dramatic plays). I do think the show can be a bit cheesy at times, but I understand the need to try and incorporate as many singing opportunities as possible into each episode. I don’t buy into all the commercial hype, I don’t buy the soundtracks, I don’t throw Glee parties.
I just enjoy the show (and it is 1 of only 4 shows that I watch regularly, the others being “The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” I’m quite sure that I am not the target audience for this show, but that does not make my opinion any less valid.
