It's Not Over – Holy Ghost – So far my only complaint is I already know too much of it. This is the boys as an ultimate disco band, not unlike the band that opened for Hot Chip at central Park last year: complete dance pros, mining the 80s (and even the 70s) in 2011 to TREMENDOUS EFFECT. These guys are one of my favorite bands alive. TRACK OF THE WEEK
Slowdance (How To Dress Well Séance) – Matthew Dear – Wild dance experimental stuff with an ambient stare.
You Are A Tourist – Death Cab For Cuties – this is a fgluttery low key effort, like a folkie alternative as opposed to the large soundscapes we have become accustomed me. It works for me but only up to the time I forget it exists.
Give A Little – Hanson – Classic and pub rock-y in execution, the boys sound really, really good. A lesson in how to grow up gracefully.
Recharge And Revolt – The Raveonettes – Another echoy-y, indie-y, synth-i-y soundscape, like Pure At Heart or something.
I Feel Like Dancin' – All Time Low – Then prove it? Chugalug teen pop.
Now And Forever – Tiesto – Yeah, he got 45,000 people to Las Vegas. A gifted fellow. But not on record.
Hear Me Now – Hollywood Undead – The thing about musical forms you don't much like is, you miss the nuances. Except for these guys, who have none.
Shoelaces – The Submarines – Indie by the numbers, but smart numbers. It does the job.
Representing Memphis – Booker T Jones – Crap song well played.
Give Me Everything – Pitbull – OK, he has featured himself for over a year now, he couldn't do better than this?
We're bacl – The Lonely Island – They just ain't very funny or very good. Except for that boat song.
