A couple thousand fans, a drunk front man and an intervention, Public humiliation or tough love? I guess that’s up for interpretation after front man Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria was pleaded with to enter rehab right on stage in Seattle Tuesday night.
Seems Danny age 21, was a hot mess insulting the crowd and generally breaking down for all to see. Videos are on the web of the band begging for him to seek help. I wont link it here, I just find it tacky after the turn of events.
Guitarist Ben Bruce went front stage yelling:
"Let's do a vote right fuckin' now. Who prefers Danny the way he is [now]? That's like three people." Worsnop began to interrupt, but Bruce said, "Ignore him. Who here will support us in putting my best friend through rehab and making him better?" As the crowd cheered, Bruce said, "Thank you so fuckin' much. Fuck you, Danny. Ignore everything he says. Thank you for supporting us. Who here wants us to play another song—despite Danny?"
If I were Danny I'd have kicked his ass and walked off the stage. But of course that didn’t happen it went on and it was recorded and it’s on YouTube and that’s that.
Captured forever the rant of a ‘best friend’ taking a poll. Pull him off stage, better yet don’t let him on the stage to begin with if you're truly concerned but public poll? I find it hurtful.
A public statement from the bands “publicist”
"Ultimately rock 'n' roll is a dangerous and exciting and just like the old days of Guns N Rose's and Motely Crue, sometimes things happen on stage. In this case, Asking Alexandria's vocalist had a little too much to drink before teh Seattle show. This was a one-time relapse as he has been sober this whole tour, abut there are no interventions or anything going on. He realized the mistake he made and couldn't feel worse about it."
I don't think we can really put Asking Alexandria on par with Guns and Roses or Crue at this point, and at this rate they wont really make it to super stardom. They can't.
What the hell is a "one time relapse"? The pathetic part of the publicists statement, (well, one of many) is the 'he couldn't feel worse about it'. Does anyone really care enough to help Danny Worsnop or shall we just watch him crash and burn? Eek out every dollar you can from this kid then discard him when hes met his limit?
I for one will not willingly attend another AA show. I have seen them many times and I can not support a band that will exploit a member in such fashion.
It really makes me sad a kid of 21 being propped up. Who's right his 'friend' or his 'publicist? Neither.
