Look Im not going to lie I have loved and I have hated, The Strokes.
Formed in 1998 this NYC band was domestic Euro. Meaning they were what alot of Brit bands were, only they didn’t have the cheeky accents. They changed though, quite a bit over the years. They sound a bit too polished a bit too “indie”. Personally I really like the new video as I reviewed a few days ago, Iman wasnt as blown away.
Ive always been one to want things to remain the same and well They sorta sucked “This is It” is still in heavy rotation on my iPod, but the other two albums, not so much. I’m not sure if they bored me or if they lost that sorta gritty edge.
But tonight is a night I have been looking so forward too. Finally SNL offers me something worth listening too that’s not some hip hop trash. Cuz I’m telling you its been a rough trip with whats been offered lately.
Its as if Julian doesn’t hear the music sometime. He sings to some other beat. At times its great as if he didn’t realize there was a band behind him and the mic is too low. I can figure out whats the hell is up with the guitars either. Something is not right. Yet still fantastically rock and roll.
Iman loves the interlocking guitars calling Julian a natural a ‘child of Joey(Ramone)’… I can see that. But I also see the boredom which is actually sort of cool. And woooo NBC censors didn’t catch that ‘fuck it’ did they.. well Iman did. YAY for swearing!
“Undercover Of Darkness” just earned two new fans. The Strokes are back.. lets stay up for more!
I love this band. I actually want to see them live.. huh.. I didn’t expect to want to.
The second song sounds like Julian was mugged by Francois Hardy and Beck… it is a new one called “Life Is SImple In The Moonlight”,
