Here is something positive about Hitler -he took Germany from a destitute country to a powerful, financially solvent one.
We all know what happened next, and Hitler lives in on infamy somewhere between Stalin and Saddam Hussein.
Ike Turner? Beat Tina and was disgraced and vilified for the rest of his life. But here are some positive things about even that rock and roll villain:
1. Saw him at Tramps in the mid-90s and despite wasting half an hour with some blonde bimbo singing Tina’s songs, when it came to rocking he was awesome.
2. He gave Tina her career.
3. He wrote and recorded the world’s first rock and roll song, “Rocket ’88′”, a tribute to the Oldsmobile model. For Sam Phillips at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee.
The country element isn’t there yet, but the rhythm is rock and the barrelling piano -by Ike, is rock as boogie in embryonic state.
Pluss the first use of fuzzy guitar (by mistake: the amp was damaged).
Released as Jackie Brenston And His Delta Cats, it was recorded either March 3rd or March 5th, 1951. Which makes it sixty years old, let’s say today!
Kinda timeless to my mind.
